Turkovs started his professional career in 2006 with Olimps/RFS. He played for the team until 2008, when he was released. He had played 35 matches and scored 2 goals in this period of time.[2] Looking for a new club was unsuccessful, so Turkovs signed for Olimps/RFS one more time in 2009. This year-long spell together with the team was more successful - 7 goals in 12 matches.[3] In 2010 he was one of the Olimps/RFS players to be taken to Skonto FC.[4] The following season was very good - 8 goals in 17 matches.[5] After the successful season Turkovs went on trial with Zalaegerszegi TE and signed a four-year contract with them at the start of 2011.[6] In his first season he played 13 matches, scoring 4 goals.[7]
Turkovs has represented Latvia in all youth levels. Since 2009 he has been playing for Latvia U-21. On November 17 in a friendly match against China he made his debut for Latvia at full-international level.[8]
